What to Expect
This tour blends wildlife adventure at Akagera National Park with relaxation at Lake Kivu. After arrival in Kigali and transfer to Akagera, you'll spend a full day of game viewing including a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, before transferring to Lake Kivu for optional water activities and a leisurely final morning before returning to Kigali.
Day by Day
Arrival & transfer to Akagera
Arrive at Kigali International Airport and drive east to Akagera (approximately 3–4 hours). Check in at your lodge and enjoy lunch, then an afternoon game drive exploring the park's rolling savannahs and wetlands, spotting elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, and potentially lions.
Full-day game viewing
A morning game drive in search of the Big Five and smaller wildlife. After lunch, a scenic boat cruise on Lake Ihema, spotting hippos, crocodiles, and numerous waterbirds, with an optional afternoon nature walk or photography session.
Transfer to Lake Kivu
After breakfast, depart Akagera and drive to Lake Kivu (approximately 6 hours) through Rwanda's scenic rolling hills. Arrive at your lakeside lodge to relax and take in the views, with optional canoeing, kayaking, swimming, or visits to nearby lakeside communities.
Lake Kivu & return
A leisurely morning on Lake Kivu before driving back to Kigali, with time for a short city tour or souvenir shopping before transfer to the airport.
